Launched in 2002, the Student Theatre Goers project allowed 180 students, aged 11-14 years, from six London comprehensives to attend a live performance at a London theatre each term for three years.

A day in the Theatre and a review

Ahead of each show, a small group of students from each school attended a training day at the designated theatre.

After their training, the students made a presentation to fellow students about the theatre they were about to visit, and the performance they were going to see. After each performance, the students wrote reviews using the resources created specifically for this project by Arts Inform.

The Productions

Sleeping Beauty
In December 2002, Student Theatre Goers went to see Sleeping Beauty at the Young Vic. Based on Perrault's 17th century classic "the story takes us beyond the kiss that wakes the princess, into a perilous world of bungled spells, awful smells, and a forest full of enchanted trouble".

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Retells the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours. Joseph was played by Boyzone star Stephen Gately. Student Theatre Goers went to the show at Easter 2003.

Hobson's Choice
A classic 1916 comedy. This production, which Student Theatre Goers attended in July 2003, is set in the modern day Asian community of Salford. Widower Hari Hobson has a successful dress making business and three daughters. The oldest, Durga is the brains behind the operation. When Hobson says that Durga is too valuable to loose and must give up all ideas of getting married, she takes matters into her own hands.
